Our Story

A place that remembers stillness

Serenity Mountain Retreat began with a simple conviction: that the best escapes aren't found on other continents, but in the hushed valleys and ridgelines of the Pacific Northwest — places where the air tastes different and time moves at the speed of shadow across a mountainside.

Perched along the winding Tumala Mountain Road in Clackamas County, our retreat is a collection of thoughtfully designed lodging spaces where terracotta-toned architecture meets the raw beauty of old-growth forest. Every window frames a different composition of pine and sky. Every morning arrives with the sound of wind through cedar rather than the hum of traffic.

Whether you're here for a weekend of uninterrupted silence or a longer stay to rediscover the rhythm of your own thoughts, we've built a place that asks nothing of you except to arrive — and let the mountain do the rest.

The Experience

Not just a place to stay — a way to slow down

Private & Unhurried

Our 40 acres are divided so that each lodging feels isolated within the forest. No shared walls, no crowded common areas — just your space and the mountain.

Trails at Your Door

Direct access to Clackamas County trail systems — from gentle forest walks to ridge-line hikes with views that stretch to the coast range. Maps provided at check-in.

Mountain Cuisine

Start each morning with locally sourced breakfast provisions — fresh bread, regional coffee, and seasonal fruit from nearby orchards. Full kitchenettes in every unit.

Fire & Starlight

Each lodging includes a private fire pit or outdoor fireplace. On clear nights, the Milky Way is visible from your deck — no telescope required.

Digital Detox Friendly

Cell service is sparse by design. We provide curated reading lists, board games, and walking maps so you can reconnect with what actually matters.

Concierge on Call

While privacy is paramount, our team is always available by phone for restaurant recommendations, trail updates, or arranging special experiences like private dinners.

What our visitors carry home

"

We came for a long weekend and left with something rare — the sense that we hadn't just escaped our lives, but actually remembered who we are outside of them. The Cedar Cabin is exactly what the internet calls "aesthetic," but more importantly, it felt like home.

I've stayed at resorts along the coast and in the high Sierras, but nothing prepared me for the quality of silence here. The Ridge Loft at dawn — with the fog still in the valley below — was the most honest morning I've had in years.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here, and the staff made it feel effortlessly special — fresh bread waiting for us, a fire lit when we arrived, and complete privacy. We're already planning our return.

I came alone to write. Stayed three nights and finished a chapter I'd been stuck on for months. The mountain doesn't distract you — it clears the noise away so you can actually hear yourself think.
